Head of People, Tech Scale-Up

This London-based technology scale-up have raised $72m, with a recent fundraise of $30m+ from investors including Goldman Sachs. They have 200 full-time employees, offices in Zurich and London and many blue-chip international clients.

The Opportunity

They are looking for a highly capable Head of People who will shape the future direction of the HR function and lead the HR Team to deliver all HR initiatives and day-to-day operations in the UK business. You will act as an in-house coach to provide strategic direction, advice, and guidance across multiple people areas such as recruitment, performance management, retention, ER, and compliance and provide operational support as required. Reporting into the Leadership Team.

Job Purpose

The Head of People will be responsible for taking strategic and operational ownership for all HR activities at the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Leadership Team to shape the future direction of their people offering. Provide guidance and support to managers of people to help them lead high performing, engaged teams
  • Be a champion for growing and developing the organisational culture
  • Develop and deliver a clearly articulated, compelling and market-leading employment brand
  • Lead all recruiting efforts, supported by a dedicated Resourcing Manager, to ensure they bring on the very best talent in a rapid growth phase
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers and team leaders on employee relations matters including grievances and disciplinaries
  • Create and review HR policies and procedures to ensure they are fit for purpose, meet their legal obligations under employment law and they are representative of the culture and values of the business
  • Compensation and benefits responsibilities; including reporting, benchmarking and salary and bonus review
  • Create a culture of continuous learning and personal development, coordinate and establish learning and development initiatives, as well as run performance management and personal development process
  • Oversee some Facilities Management functions (potentially including an office move in 2020)
  • Establish systems, tools and processes to ensure all People & Talent data is reliable and informative, including the development of dashboards and reporting that informs the business and drives data-driven decision making

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in an HR Business Partner or similar role with broad experience across all HR disciplines
  • Proven experience of operating as a trusted advisor to senior management and the Executive team
  • Previous line management, able to coach and develop direct reports
  • You’ll ideally have experience in a high-growth or start-up environment
  • Excellent employment law knowledge and proven experience of employee relations risk management
  • Able to operate at a strategic level but equally focused on hands-on delivery and ownership of all aspects within the People & Talent function
  • You bring creative and simple solutions to different problems that might arise, and you’re resilient through times of challenges or ambiguity
  • An analytical mindset and a data-driven approach, able to support recommendations with clear business case and evidence

Reporting & Directs

This role reports to the Managing Director of the UK business and has 2 direct reports
